‘Twas The Trader’s Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the trader’s night before Christmas, when all through the markets

Not a stock was volatile, not even one in the energy sector;

The stocks were all traded with care,

In hopes that the Santa Claus Rally would soon be there;

The traders were bullish all snug in their bets,

While visions of profits danced in their heads;

And the bears believing the market could not go higher were shorting the trend,

Had just settled down for the bulls run to end,

When out on the blue there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my trading desk to see what was the matter.

Away to the trading platform I flew like a flash,

Opened the the real time news window and threw up the cash.

The bulls on the day of the new all time high,

made the bears feel doomed, as the bulls continued to buy.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a new miniature Fed Chairman, and the reduction of fear,

With a little old printing press, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment dovish Fed comments would continue to do the trick.

More rapid than eagles the SPY bounce came,

And the bulls whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, Facebook! now Alibaba! now, Twitter and Google!

On, Apple! on GoPro! on LinkedIn!,  Goldman Sachs and PriceLine !

To the top of the charts! to the top of the worry wall!

Now print away! print away! print away all!”

So reversing off support and now reversing to new all time highs SPY flew,

With equities full of confidence, and the bulls now too.

And then, in a twinkling, I saw on the chart,

The price strength and uptrend was to start.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Up prices went with a bound.

She was dressed in a suit, from her head to her foot,

And her clothes were all fancy like a Fed Chairman’s should be;

A bundle of dollars she had flung on her back,

And she looked like a elf just opening his money stack.

Her eyes — how they twinkled! her dimples how merry!

Her cheeks were like roses, her nose like a cherry!

Her droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of Bernanke’s chin would no longer be seen;

There was much hype of her dovishness that kept the up trend clean,

And the smoke did not encircle the bull market like a wreath;

A wink of her eye and a twist of her head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work,

And filled all the traders stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying her finger aside of her nose,

And giving a nod, up the hierarchy she rose;

She sprang to Fed meeting room, to give her team a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard her exclaim, as she drove out of sight,

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night, the Santa Rally had begun, to the bulls delight”
