Jeff Bezos current net worth is $125.5 billion making him the richest person in the world again.  His net worth is up over $13 billion since November 2019 with most of the increase coming after last Friday’s gap up in Amazon price. Amazon issued its earnings last week and its stock set new all time highs. Today it got as high as $2,071.

Jeff Bezos’ wealth is due to the value of his Amazon stock holdings. The Amazon stock price has been correlated with the growth of his personal fortune. He still owns about 12% of the total outstanding shares in Amazon even though he has been selling to raise cash recently.

This is not his highest net worth ever, as Jeff Bezos’ wealth peak topped out at around $151.4 billion in 2018 as Amazon stock was over $2,000 a share. In July 2019, Jeff Bezos’ net worth fell approximately $36 billion after their divorce was finalized. His ex wife MacKenzie Bezos received 4% of Amazon (19.7 million shares) in their divorce settlement.

This is an example of the power of owning equity in a publicly traded company because the leverage it gives an investor.
