A child of Walmart Inc. founder Samuel Walton, Alice Walton was born into a family that valued art and business alike on October 7th, 1949 in Newport, Arkansas. With three elder brothers – Sam Robson Walton, John Walton, and Jim Walton. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to Bentonville, Arkansas where Sam Walton opened his first store ‘Walton’s 5 & 10’ and they settled down there.

As an ambitious youngster, she cultivated a passion for both outdoor activities like horse riding as well as artistic ones such as painting watercolors or buying her very first reproduction of a Picasso piece at just ten years old.
